Practice Exam

So, I spent my Monday producing a practice exam for algebra. The test is tentatively scheduled for Friday and will have exactly the same format. Take time to take a look at it. It'll help a lot.

The week fo May 23rd

Algebra is coming to a close. Worksheets 4.5, 5, and 6 are floating around out there. I'll post a practise exam later today or tomorrow and I'll try to get a cheat sheet up for problem solving. My computer is in the shop so these postings depend on when I can find a computer to publish to my server space. Test Thursday, maybe Friday. If you need help, please come and talk to me. Especially about problem solving.

the week that was

Not a lot of math done. I'll look at the tests this weekend. Division 17 will write it again sometime next week. Keep up with the worksheets and come see me during the week if you need help.

I'll add another practise worksheet on the site in the coming days. Check them out if you need more work to do.

Right now, I'm eating Dan-D-Pack Wasabi Peanuts. UUUUUUUUUUMMMMMMMMM, peanuts.

Small quiz today. I appologise to div 17. They haven't had a lot of time to try this stuff. You will get the exact same quiz again next week. Redeem yourselves.

Extra Work Sheet

The extra worksheet is up. It's on the right hand column under extra questions.

May 12th

We did a little bit of multiple step algebra. Hope you all know what you're doing. Test tomorrow. I'm kidding. The homework today was something like:
#1. 5(y-3) = 12
#2. 5(y-3) = y + 1
Show your steps. I've put some extra questions up in an hour or so.

May 11th

As promised, I've posted a cheat sheet you can download for help with your math. I haven't marked your test yet and I ran out of time so I wasn't able to get an extra worksheet done for today. I'll have it done tomorrow. I promise. The homework question was to eliminate the brackets and then simplify this expression:
(3a^2 + x – 2) – (3a^2 – 5x + 3)
The ^ means the 2 is an exponent to the variable.

May 10th

Big review on your algebra today. I hope it cleared things up. If it didn't, come to the tutorials. I'll hold one tomorrow. As well, if you want extra work to do, I'll post some extra questions on the site beginning tomorrow. If you do the extra homework and hand it in, I'll provide you $50 homework money. It's not required. These will ask for less explaining but it'll still require you to know how to do algebra to do them.

I read your journals today. There are a copy of good requests. I'll certainly do them if they help even one of you do better in math. One thing I will do is provide you a cheat sheet on all the things that we've done so far. Unfortunately, the cheat sheet is not something you can use on tests. I'll hand that out before the weekend. You'll also be able to download it as a .pdf later.

Assessment, which not many people finished. Hopefully, you're okay with all of the work. I'm going to go over some of the homework questions and test questions tomorrow. This assessment should tell you what information you should be writing in your journal and give you an idea on what is expected for the unit final. We also started talking about like and unlike terms. This leads into simplification of algebraic equations.

This week's math

So, by the end of the week, we've covered solving algebraic equations through addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. These are the four main processes that you need to know to do the algebra that we will be doing next week. Homework is the 2nd sheet that is due Monday.(Some have already handed it in.) If you need help on the algebra, please email me. Your textbook also has some explanations for the stuff we're doing. You can look at page 378-380. We will have a small assessment Monday on algebra.

May 1st

Today, we covered solving algebraic equations through multiplication and division. The homework is the handout that I gave you in class. If you've misplaced it, there is a .pdf copy on the right border. Prep next class for a small assessment.
